The Civil and Mineral Engineering Graduate Students Association (CivMin GSA, but previously called CEGSA) represents more than 400 graduate students in the Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering. The purpose of the association is to represent the graduate student body to other groups and to sponsor events of common interest to the membership. Past activities have included free barbecues in the summer, pool and pub nights, coffee breaks, movie nights, and sporting events such as the Toronto Raptors and Blue Jays.
CivMin GSA engages in the affairs of the Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering by meeting regularly with the Chair and by selecting representatives for the departmental committees that make decisions affecting graduate education. These include the Academic Planning Committee and the Academic Appeals Committee. The association also holds three seats on the Council of the U of T Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU), which debates issues of interest to the entire graduate community of the University of Toronto.
The CivMin GSA Executive consists of seven (or more) members who are elected in September of each year. These positions as well as how to get elected are explained in greater detail in the CivMin GSA Constitution.
If you have any suggestions for how to improve the graduate student experience, or if you would like to participate in the work of CivMin GSA, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
